“Old Family Photographs”—for example, this one of my grandmother Menene and grandfather Tata. She used to send me Xeroxes of good ones in giant manila envelopes along with clarifying captions: “tus abuelos en el Triumph, 1950.” Reading between the lines, I think this is one from their courtship period.
We got lucky, our grandparents are a lot of fun. For example, Menene and Tata will still stay out at a wedding haciendo farra until 6 AM, then drive the hour back telling stories the whole way, and wake up after a catnap so gpa can drive her to the pool, where she does water aerobics (trades recipes and aphorisms) with the ladies. Or, let’s say they are having too much fun at your beach house which is several hours away by bus. Most people would stop the fun and get on the bus, just so they can sleep in their warm bed, plus extra much if they’re 85 years old. But not these two. If you have a spare bed, they can borrow some nightclothes and sleep over and figure the rest out in the morning. Cause life’s more fun when you’re having adventures!
Menene recites her names.
